Summer Associate Program
New associates at Schmeiser Olsen and Watts often come to the firm through its Summer Associate Program. This program immerses students in all aspects of the firm’s culture in an effort to provide a realistic view of working at the firm. Second year law students and exceptionally talented or experienced first year law students are provided work experiences similar to those provided to the firm’s first year associates. Program participants are paired with mentor attorneys, who guide and direct them throughout their summer employment activities. Summer associates may directly interact with all of the firm’s attorneys and staff in the process of fulfilling assignments.
Experiences vary depending upon the firm’s docket. To the extent that students are able to fulfill tasks required, they may take responsibility in the following practice areas: Domestic and Foreign Patent, Trademark, and Copyright filings; Intellectual Property Litigation and other types of adversarial proceedings; and Licensing and Business Transactions. Projects assigned to Summer Associates are coordinated to ensure that each associate is exposed to a variety of projects during the summer.
Qualified candidates may go to the How to Apply page on the firm’s website, complete the form and attach a resume, cover letter and, if possible, law school and undergraduate transcripts.
