Professional Experience

Boasting 35 years as a patent attorney, business consultant, and award-winning author, Donald J. Labriola is a nationally recognized expert in the fields of computer science, data communications, telecommunications, and new media. Prior to becoming an attorney, Don spent over a decade operating an engineering-management consultancy for Fortune 500 clients and, as a long-time Contributing Editor, Lead Analyst, and columnist for PC Magazine and CNET, published three books and wrote over 450 articles for mainstream tech periodicals. Don brings a unique business-oriented perspective to Schmeiser, Olsen, and Watts’ patent-prosecution team and, since joining the firm in 2011, has drafted and successfully prosecuted sophisticated patents in fields that range from computer hardware to consumer electronics, software, electronic communications, electrical engineering, and semiconductor technologies.

Don holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics and Mathematics cum laude from SUNY Albany, a Master of Science in Computer Science summa cum laude from Union College, and a Juris Degree magna cum laude from Albany Law School, is a Registered Patent Attorney before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, and is licensed to practice in the U.S. District Court of the Northern District of New York, the New York State Unified Court System, and the Hawai’i State Judiciary.
