Professional Experience

Mr. Payne holds the position Of Counsel at the firm. He is an AV rated attorney who brings extensive business management, patent prosecution, and licensing experience. With over 20 years of experience both as in house counsel for a number of corporations and as an attorney in private practice, he has led efforts to develop and upgrade several company IP departments and established numerous strategic partnerships. Mr. Payne established the IP department at CUNO Incorporated, and served as its Chief Patent Counsel before it was acquired by 3M in 2005. He has held managerial and patent counsel positions at General Electric Company (Transportation Systems), Deere & Company, and General Motors.

Mr. Payne possesses an expansive knowledge of patent preparation and prosecution, as well as being highly-skilled at drafting and negotiating license agreements for novel technologies both domestically and internationally. He also possesses considerable experience with government contract and technical and data rights negotiation.
