Professional Experience

William G. Guerin is a partner at the Massachusetts office of Schmeiser, Olsen & Watts LLP. His responsibilities entail US and foreign patent applications, counseling clients on intellectual property portfolio development, due diligence activities in support of corporate transactions, patent validity and infringement analyses, and licensing and technology transfer agreements. Bill maintains a wealth of experience prosecuting patent applications in the electrical, software and physics areas relating to optical systems and optical networks, analog and digital circuits, image processing, opto-electronics devices, radar systems, Internet technologies, and semiconductor processing.

Bill earned his Bachelor’s degree in physics at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1979, and completed his master’s degree in optics from the University of Rochester in 1982. Before attending law school, Bill was a member of the technical staff at the MIT Lincoln Laboratory in the Optical Communications Technology, Laser Radar Measurements, and Optical systems Engineering Groups. In addition, Bill served in an engineering staff position in the Optical Group of the Perkin-Elmer Corporation.

In 1997, Bill received his Juris Doctor, graduating from Suffolk University Law School, cum laude, with a High Technology Distinction. Bill started his law career as an associate in Boston, Massachusetts. In 2002, he co-founded Guerin & Rodriguez LLP, a Massachusetts law firm specializing in Intellectually Property matters. Bill’s efforts in the joint management of Guerin and Rodriguez LLP from 2002 to 2013 fostered the growth of the firm towards national recognition.

In 2013, Guerin and Rodriguez LLP joined forces with Schmeiser, Olsen & Watts LLP, where Bill is a partner at our Marlborough, Massachusetts office. Bill is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and the United States District Courts, District of Massachusetts.
